Leave the tarmac behind and engage low range: at Weeze Airport, the Jeep Wrangler shows what it can do. A day off-road with Redrock Adventures takes us through narrow forest trails, deep mud and rocky terrain – and repeatedly beyond our comfort zone.

From the first trail into challenging terrain
Blue skies, dry woodland and still enough mud for a demanding day. We head onto the first trails in small groups. The instructors guide us step by step, explain driving techniques and help us understand our own vehicles better.
Each section raises the challenge. The gaps between trees narrow and the climbs become steeper. Mud holes show how important the right line is. Speed does not matter here; what counts is feeling what is happening beneath the wheels.

A break between dust and mud
At lunchtime, the engines fall silent. There are burgers at the food truck, and conversations in the sunshine move from the trails we have just driven to modifications and equipment. These moments are as much a part of the day as the obstacles: sharing experiences, asking questions and laughing together about the tricky sections.

Side slopes and precision work
In the afternoon, we return to the terrain. A steep slope gets people comparing the Defender and Wrangler; next comes a side slope of up to thirty degrees. From inside the cab, the bank feels quite different from how it looks outside. Trust in the technology and a steady hand become especially important.
On the rock-crawling course, making progress becomes a matter of millimetres. We feel our way forward, rock by rock. Axles articulate, tyres search for grip. What looks like brute force in a photograph mainly demands a delicate touch behind the wheel.

What stays with us
Axle articulation, dust and mud provide the pictures. But the sense of community stays with us too: people helping one another and sharing their enjoyment of their vehicles. The day in Weeze showed how much you can learn by approaching new challenges together. Jeep Wave!
